Narendra Modi insults the nation by using I-Day speech for political mudslinging --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Basavaraj Itnal Narendra Modi is ignorant of basic protocol of Independence Day address. Modi is at best a prime minister aspirant, not even official nominee of BJP for the post. But he is Chief Minister of Gujarat. On the occasion of 67th I-Day celebrations, the prime minister addresses the nation and the chief ministers address their respective states. I-Day address is not election campaign speech where you attack your political opponents unless you are a hopelessly desperate aspirant to the top job. Modibots may now pounce on me with questions like what is wrong in attacking the Congress? What is wrong in attacking the Gandhi dynasty? What is wrong in attacking food bill etc? Nothing wrong. In fact in a democracy everyone must be questioned and debated. What is unpardonably wrong is that chief minister of a state treats prime minister of his own country as his opponent on I-Day celebrations. Imagine governors of US states from opposition parties attacking US president on the Independence Day celebration! Imagine provincial heads of any European country attacking their own PM/President on official celebrations of national festival. I-Day celebrations are occasions to showcase solidarity and unity of this great nation and it cannot be used to score brownie points with political opponents. I-Day speech has lost its sanctity, thanks to Modi’s lust for power. hindustantimes/India-news/NewDelhi/Narendra-Modi-s-attack-on-PM-on-I-day-leaves-some-BJP-leaders-squirming/Article1-1108302.aspx
