-Native American Heritage Day- This saturday, the 21st, Wayne County Parks and the North American Indian Association host a special Social Gathering, that includes a drumming circle, dancers in beautiful regalia, artisans displaying, demonstrating and selling crafts and Native American food available for purchase. All are welcome. The whole family will enjoy this celebration of Michigan’s first people. This is a free outdoor event and all ages are welcome. Limited seating available, bring a lawn chair. Don’t miss the event grand entry at 1:00 PM, where the color guard brings flags into the circle. The drum plays in the center, and then the dancers, such as fancy shawl, jingle, and grass and more enter. When the drum takes a break, be sure to try some Native American food, such as frybread, Indian tacos, corn soup and more. The Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is located on Hines Drive just east of Ann Arbor Trail in Westland. Parking is available off of Hines Drive, and can be reached even if the road is closed at Ann Arbor Trail. For more info see attached pdf
