A multi-faceted genius, Dr Bhupen Hazarika was a poet, lyricist, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and film-maker of the very highest repute. He was honoured with the Padmashree award (1977) for his outstanding contribution to the field of culture in India, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime contribution to development of Indian cinema (1993), the Padma Bhushan (2001) and Padam Vibhushan (2012).
