# NewDelhi: The National Integration Council, # NIC, to meet today to discuss measures to prevent and tackle communal disturbances. # Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will chair the meeting. The 148 member NIC will discuss the measures taken to promote communal harmony, role of # social networking sites in promoting national integration, how to tackle hate propaganda and safety and security of # women. NIC will also discuss the proposed # Communal Violenc eBill, opposed by some states as it envisages empowering the Union government to send central forces in case of communal disturbances. The meeting will also discuss steps taken to tackle crimes against # Scheduled Castes and # Scheduled Tribes to remove inter-caste tension.
