#NewsUpdate...5 suspects accused of fraud through the Accountant General Department will be charged today. Its alleged that employees and one relative fleeced millions from accounts of deceased pensioners. Theres still a notice of industrial action at the National Commercial Bank although there was a meeting held yesterday at the Industrial Disputes Tribunal. Jamaica’s crime fighting efforts have been boosted with yesterdays official opening of the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCAs) polygraph centre. Commissioner of Police, Carl Williams, says the centre is a major part of plans to transform the culture of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and root out corrupt cops. He said the plan is to introduce polygraph testing as a part of the vetting process for new officers. National Security Minister Peter Bunting said yesterday the Cabinet had taken the decision that polygraphing is to be extended beyond the security forces, and should also be a requirement for key posts in ministries such as finance, national security, foreign affairs, and the Office of the Prime Minister. In the wake of the growing controversy over the cellular phone bills of government ministers, Health Minister, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, says he will be returning his phone. The health minister rejected the accusation that he abused his phone service and said the bill was incorrectly calculated.Between July 2013 to June this year his phone bill amounted to J$749-thousand. Meanwhile, Junior Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arnaldo Brown has responded to reports that he racked up over J$1 million in cellular phone charges. He stated that during that the period, he went on 15 overseas assignments on behalf of the Government and the calls and data charges were incurred in the execution of his duties. Dr Horace Chang, opposition spokesman on housing, is expressing outrage at the decision by the National Housing Trust (NHT) to purchase the Trelawny-based attraction Outameni Experience. He is calling for the Government to disclose details of the controversial deal. The NHT appeared to be tweaking its business model by diversifying into attraction ownership with the acquisition of Outameni from Lennie Little-White for $180 million.The agency, which hopes to have the facility up and running within this financial year, will spend $111 million on upgrades over a three-year period. Commissioner of INDECOM, Terrence Williams, is maintaining that there was enough evidence to proceed with the trial for the murder of entertainer Robert Hill, otherwise called “Kentucky Kid.” This is contrary to what the Director of Public Prosecutions has asserted. Mr Williams is insisting that there was scientific and circumstantial evidence, which could have been used to prosecute the policemen who were charged with murder.
