"Night of the Rain" This song was written when I was 21.It has sat in my private completed song file for almost a year now. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a dreary fall day, misty rain, the kind that clenses more than drentches, and a young girl ( I knew of her) passed by my front window, one hand cradled her belly. She was with child, I smiled, waived and she smiled back. Then I began to write. The following quote was recently published and was the impetus for me sharing this song. I hope more than anything that the young girl that smiled that day and her child, has had a wonderul , beautiful life. Published quote. "This morning I walked to the place where the street-cleaners dump the rubbish," wrote painter Vincent van Gogh in one his letters. "My God, it was beautiful." Was he being ironic or sarcastic? Not at all. He was sincere. As an artist, he had trained himself to be intrigued by scenes that other people dismissed as ugly or irrelevant. His sense of wonder was fully awake. He could find meaning and even enchantment anywhere. It is my elusive pursuit to see the world as van Gogh did.
