‘No danger to Yatra’ =>Asserting that there was no threat to annual Amanarth Yatra, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday said people of Jammu and Kashmir were not communal “No threat exists either from people or militants to Amarnath Yatra. India is trying to mislead its people and international community by claiming that there is threat to Yatra,” Geelani said in a statement issued here today. He said the propaganda regarding threat from militants or common man to yatra is baseless. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are not communal and have nothing to do with sectarian politics. People of Jammu and Kashmir are famous for their humble nature and since last 150 years Amarnath Yatra is being conducted. During all these years, people of Kashmir have treated yatris with the unique hospitality”. Geelani said even during blockade of Kashmir by some section of people of Jammu in 2008, Kashmiri people served and supplied food items to yatris. Stating that people of Kashmir had never opposed or objected to Yatra, he alleged that India is trying to use a simple religious ritual as a tool to implement their political and military objectives. Referring to incidents like Chatti Singhpora and kidnapping of foreign tourists in 1995, he said Indian Army under the garb of these fake episodes had tried to give bad name to struggle. “They may make such attempts in future also”. While reiterating his demand for handing over Amaranth shrine Board to local Pandits , Geelani said the Yatra should be run on Gangotri type. “The number of yatris should limited to save the fragile atmosphere”. “By allowing 16000 yatris a day to cave, SASB has urged the yatra into a political aggression against people of Jammu and Kashmir. It is detrimental for local forests and water resources,” he added.
