Not only is the Public Advocate the City’s ombudsman, he is an ex officio member of all Council committees, can sponsor local legislation and monitors compliance of City officers and agencies with the New York City Charter. The Public Advocate of New York City is a very powerful position for change. Unfortunately, most citizens are unaware of the powers of this position and those who’ve previously held this position have failed to exercise those powers – until now. Michael K. Lloyd, Esq., the son of a New York City Correction officer, was born in Harlem and raised in a public housing project in the Bronx. He’s served as a housing court litigator, interim director of Bedford Stuyvesant Housing Community Legal Services and is currently a NYS Impartial Hearing Officer for handicapped children in New York City. His work in this arena has made him an expert in the field of Special Education. He is running for Public Advocate on the Freedom Party line on November 5, 2013. As Public Advocate, Michael K. Lloyd will use the oversight and legislative powers of the office to improve services by reducing waste and mismanagement across agencies. The top three agencies on his hit list are the Department of Education – Michael K Lloyd will work to empower parents in their childs education process and stop unnecessary referrals of our children to Special Ed NYPD – Michael K Lloyd will work to secure for young and old alike the right of free assembly, and to secure their right to walk the streets without being unlawfully stopped and frisked. Metropolitan Transit Authority – Michael K Lloyd will work to decrease New York City transit fares. The MTA has the highest fare box operating ratio at 53% as compared to other major cities at 38%.
