*Nov. 21, 1995 posted by Rich Smith a couple of years ago, on the Butterball Turkey Hot Line... Our paper reports the doings at the Butterball Turkey Talk Line. One adviser there says her favorite calls are those from people who leave their turkey out on the kitchen counter all night after the feast and want to know if its safe to eat the next day. When told its risky, they often respond, If we do eat it, how sick will we get? Another caller had a turkey that had been in her freezer for twenty-three years, and she wanted to know if it was still safe. The folks at Butterball advised her that if the freezer had been kept at zero degrees and never defrosted, the turkey was safe, but its quality would not be good. Thats what we thought, she replied. Well give it to the church. As someone has said, If God had meant for us to fast on Thanksgiving, he would never have created 30-pound turkeys. A 4-year-old boy who was asked to return thanks before Thanksgiving dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation. He began his prayer, thanking God for all his friends, naming them one by one. Then he thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all his aunts and uncles. Then he began to thank God for the food. He gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip. Then he paused, and everyone waited--and waited. After a long silence, the young fellow looked up at his mother and asked, If I thank God for the broccoli, wont he know that Im lying? Two men accepted a dare and entered, as clowns into a bull ring. They realized, after 2 minutes that the bull didnt think they were very funny and started chasing after them. As they turned tail and ran, one turned to the other and said, Neither of us can run fast enough to make it to the wall before the bull makes it to us, so you best say a prayer. I dont know how to pray. I never even went to church. came the reply. You better pray something, cause Im outta breath. said the first man. Well, the only prayer I can remember is this, O God, for what were about to receive, may we be truly thankful! In all situations: Give Thanks! November: One fellow was violently tearing through his Bible in a desperate search. A friend came up and asked, Is something wrong? Yes, he said, I cant remember if the Thanksgiving story is in the Old Testament or New Testament
