#ONZconference #treatmentofnosebleeds Hi there, I have just been away for three days at the Osteopathy Conference run by Osteopaths New Zealand (ONZ). It was a great conference and excellent to catch up with osteopaths from all around New Zealand and hear wonderful local and overseas speakers on a range of topics from nutrition to barefoot running. My son who is seven has had that nasty cough that has been going around, I should have treated him before I left for conference, however in all the busy-ness of a short week, I did not get the chance. The first night I was away he had a huge nose bleed and then proceeded to have six more big nose bleeds over the weekend, usually in the wee hours of the morning (my poor husband!). Anyway, top priority when I got home late yesterday, was to treat my son. I found he had a functional leg length difference of nearly 1cm, tightness and strain in his low back, mid back and chest, including the thoracic diaphragm (probably from all that coughing?), he had a tender and rotated vertebra in his neck and the membranes which attach to the inside of the bones of his head, were extremely tight. I gently treated all of these and they released which freed up his neck, his breathing improved and his leg lengths came even again. I expected that this would stop his nose bleeds overnight and I am pleased to be able to report that he slept through last night with no trace of a nose bleed. I should mention he doesnt usually get nose bleeds, last one would have been a year ago so to get a sudden spate of them and then stop immediately post treatment is probably significant. It would be great if all parents could be trained (its only five years full-time plus lots of post graduate work!) to treat their children with nose bleeds or, my other favourite, ear infections and glue ear. However in the meantime you may need to enquire about the wonderful osteopath in your area. Melanie Young Reg. Osteopath Director City Osteopaths cityosteopaths.co.nz
