[Occupy Mongkok] Mainland Tourists Admire Freedom of Speech, Dont Mind Interruptions The Occupy Central Movement has spread to other districts in Hong Kong. The streets in Mongkok, a popular tourist destination, are one of the main areas occupied in Kowloon. The number of participants continues to rise throughout the afternoon at the junction of Nathan Road and Argyle Street. Many shops in the vicinity are shut down, affecting many Mainland Chinese shoppers. However, they do not mind missing out on the shopping after travelling a long distance, as they admire the determination of the pro-democracy protesters. One visitor comments, Visitors can shop elsewhere. Mrs Liang, a tourist from Guangzhou with her husband and a friend, comes to Hong Kong for a one-day trip. They arrive at the rally site with their luggage. She witnesses Hongkongers of all ages sitting in orderly fashion to fight for democracy, of which she was highly supportive. Even though shopping here for tourists was affected by the Occupy Central Movement, says Mrs Liang, There are shops elsewhere that tourists can visit. She does not believe that tourists will cancel their shopping trips to Hong Kong during the Golden Week, which begins on National Day, 1st of October. Knowing that Hongkongers continued to assemble even though tear gas is used to disperse the protesters, Mrs Liang praises the civility and solidarity of Hongkongers. People in Guangzhou would never be as united, she said. Although she believes that the NPC would not yield to the Occupy Central Movement, she supports and admires the Hongkongers for treasuring their rights to voice their opinions and achieve democracy step-by-step.
