On August 20, 2014 the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) held a Kickoff meeting to introduce the new business model to the community. NJII is an entity under the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) that consists of five innovation laboratories (iLabs) focusing on areas such as bio-pharmaceutical production, civil infrastructure, defense and homeland security, financial services, and healthcare delivery systems. This particular gathering had a strong focus on the healthcare sector as it was held at the NJ-HITEC headquarters. Dr. Donald Sebastian, PhD., President of New Jersey Innovation Institute, introduced the concept and mission of NJII, likening it to Bell Labs as the goal is to unite businesses under the five iLab industries to spur innovation and help New Jersey step into the next era.
