“On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha, You can listen - TopicsExpress

“On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha, You can listen to the engine moanin out its one note song, You can think about the woman, or the girl you knew the night before, But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do, When youre riding sixteen hours and theres nothing there to do And you dont feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through, Here I am, on the road again There I am, on the stage, Here I go, playing star again, There I go, turn the page, Well you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road, And you feel the eyes upon you as youre shaking off the cold, You pretend it doesnt bother you, but you just want to explode, Most times you cant hear em talk, other times you can, All the same old cliches, is it woman is it man?, You always seem outnumbered, so you dont dare make a stand, Here I am, on the road again, There I am, on the stage, Here I go, playing star again, There I go, turn the page, Out there in the spotlight youre a million miles away, Every ounce of energy, you try to give away, As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play, Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed, With the echoes from the amplifiers ringin in your head, You smoke the days last cigarette, remembering what she said, Here I am, on the road again, There I am, up on the stage, Here I go, playing star again, There I go, turn the page, Here I am, on the road again, There I am, on the stage yeah, Here I go, playing star again, There I go, there I go” One of the many great Bob Seger songs. I am holding my breath on the weather as there is a chance of rain Saturday and Sunday and I have some softball games to work. What else is happening? The Tigers are in Kansas City, in the process of completing a 4 game series with the Royals. This is the final series before the All Star break. Detroit won the 1st game of this series last night, pounding Kansas City into submission 16-4. Game 2 will be tonight and then the 3rd game is Saturday night. Saturday night’s game falls within the Fox window for the nationally televised weekly game of the week. So those wanting to follow this game will have to do one of two things. Either wait for the replay on FSD beginning at 10:00 pm or do the old fashion thing, something I grew up with, which is follow the game on the radio. I can remember many times, especially if it was a west coast game taking my transistor to bed and trying to stay awake until the end. If I failed I would have to listen to the radio when they would give the scores. WSGW used to start the score segment with the “Go Get Em Tiger” song. If they won there would be a roar and if they lost it would be a meow. There was no computer then and no ESPN to go to for the scores. Heck it was a treat to see a game on television as there were only 40 televised on the year. Sunday then concludes the traditional 1st half of the season. The Tigers have actually already played more than half their games but that is when baseball stops for the All Star break. The All Star game is on Tuesday with the Tigers resuming play next Friday. In my opinion baseball has the best All Star game of any of the major sports. With regards to the NBA free agency is officially underway. Detroit Piston fans are waiting to see what happens to Greg Monroe. Many other basketball fans are waiting to see where Lebron ends up. I will have more respect for him if he returns to Cleveland. If he is that good go back to Cleveland, let them build a team around you and win a championship there. I will never be mistaken for a Michael Jordan fan. He played for the Bulls and I followed the Pistons then and hated the Bulls. However I do not think I would have ever seen the day when Jourdan and Magic and Larry Bird would get together and say, “Hey let’s all play in Chicago and win a bunch of championships.” That would not happen. Okay soccer fans the World Cup is Sunday. Argentina and Germany are the participants. I could have made a lot of money if I was a betting man and took Germany and told you, “You can have Brazil and I will give you 5 goals.” Oh, one last thing the final episode of 24 is Monday. I have had to DVR them but am enjoying this season as much as ever. That’s it. Have a great weekend everyone and TGIF!!!!
