#OnThisDay in #1989 #TheArsenioHallShow debuted on #FoxTV with #LutherVandross singing the 1975 #MajorHarris hit #LoveWontLetMeWait The late-night talk show was created and hosted by #ArsenioHall and the original show ran for five seasons until May 27, 1994. Aimed primarily at, although not limited to, the younger #urban audience the show quickly appealed to young people of all races and began to attract a wide variety of guests not common on other talk shows. It became the show for entertainers to go to in order to reach the “#MTVGeneration” The show hit its peak in #1992 when presidential nominee #BillClinton made a guest appearance and played #HeartbreakHotel on the saxophone with the band. It solidified both the importance of the talk show circuit during a political campaign and made headlines for Hall all around the world. As cable television expanded - and MTV showed less music videos and more original programming - Halls audience began trickling away. By 1993, Halls ratings had declined enough to cause concern at Paramount. #Arsenio had made plans to leave his show several months before the highly controversial appearance of Minister #LouisFarrakhan of the #NationOfIslam, which caused protest from Jewish and gay groups due to remarks by Farrakhan that many felt were anti-Semitic and homophobic. The furor over this episode was a major reason why Hall and Paramount decided not to renew his contract. The second series debuted on September 9, 2013 and was canceled after one season due to low ratings. #TWIMH
