□ One Global Family □ One for all, all for one The central message of this post has being in solution in my crucible of articles for God knows how long, but until now had not seen the light of the day due to the lack of an appropriate separation technique to isolate and bring it out of solution. A post here on Facebook this morning acted as a seed precipitating the crystallisation into a palpable form conveyable to the general public. Some group of well meaning Africans [?Nigerians] took to the streets and were protesting against the gross injustice of the Ferguson murder. Someone took offence and condemned the gesture, pointing out that we have more problems in Africa to worry about instead of wasting our time with the problems of the western part of the globe; in much the same way many of us spoke out against those that took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge in campaign against ALS. Now, here is my take: The African selfish mentality of face your own problems is as absurd as it is disgusting and antisocial[yea, u heard right ... antisocial!]. Its high time we stopped and realised that humanity is one big global family, that an ill against a member of a specie is an ill against all irrespective of colour, race or geographical divides. So theres absolutely nothing wrong in protesting against the injustice of the Ferguson murder; its just humans showing solidarity to their counterparts in another clime. When they[westerners] were doing the ALS ice bucket challenge, we ranted in criticism of those that joined in the campaign, but applauded westerners who joined in the #Bring_back_our_girls_campaign ! What hypocrisy! We should borrow a leaf from these people that take our ills as theirs, now and again taking Panadol and Tryptans for our migraine headaches; for if all countries were to adopt this selfish mentality and faced their local problems solely, I wonder what would be the fate of humanity! Imagine what would happen if all those western NGOs pumping millions of dollars to the global course of controlling infectious diseases prevalent in Africa had this mindset .... afterall Malaria for eg is almost nonexistent in the western world. My point in summary is this: 1. The African mentality of face your problems alone is as selfish as what have you. 2. That you have problems dosent mean you can not extend a helping hand to another in need,or at least show solidarity or sympathy .... Ndi igbo si ... Oko koo anumani o jee na ukwu osisi; okoo mmadu o jekwuru ibe ya... dosent necessarily mean that the helping party has no itch of his own. 3. It is high time the African realised he isnt the only one with problems, and rise above his challenges to help others too .....not sitting legs crossed and arms folded like a lotus eater waiting to be helped all the time! 4. May we all embrace the idea of global oneness .... helping out each other the much we can irrespective of our own problems; irrespective of the seeming divides imposed by colour, race, religion and geography. #PEACE
