#Onthisday in 1968 Dutch painter Kees van Dongen died (1877-1968). He gained a reputation for his sensuous, at times garish, portraits Van Dongen began to exhibit in Paris, and participated in the controversial 1905 Salon dAutomne exhibition. Other painters included Henri Matisse, André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck en Albert Marquet. The bright colours of this group of artists led to them being called Fauves (wild beasts). Van Dongen was also briefly a member of the German Expressionist group Die Brücke. These paintings by Kees van Dongen were all exhibited at #TEFAF2014.
