[Our Biodiversity] The Kungkur (Albizia lebbekoides) Heritage - TopicsExpress

[Our Biodiversity] The Kungkur (Albizia lebbekoides) Heritage Tree came to Singapore as a seed the size of a ten-cent coin, from Darjeeling, India in May 1925. Today, this tree is around 46 m tall and can be found near the Swan Lake. The bark of Kungkur yields a red dye known as soga tekik, which is used for colouring batik fabrics in Java. Our Heritage Tree has been observed to flower and fruit in the months of April to May and September to January, so look out for its pale green flowers and oblong flat fruit pods during these times. Learn more about the Kungkur on the NParks - Lets Make Singapore Our Garden Flora & Fauna Web here: bit.ly/VJyXve, and read up on our Heritage Tree in the ‘Tall Tales: Heritage Trees Trail Guide’ book, available at the Gardens Shop @ Nassim Gate, Library Shop and major bookstores at $9.50. #ourbiodiversity #singaporebotanicgardens #sbg #heritagetrees #florafaunaweb #nparksbuzz #nparks
