**Our men and women who serve are the best of us, and we lost a great one today** JEREMIAH DENTON: Naval Pilot, Vietnam-era POW, Former Senator from Alabama, Author of When Hell was in Session Person of humility and faith. I do not know how many of you remember wearing POW bracelets during and after the Vietnam War. Being from a Navy town, THE Navy town where many of the Squadrons were based, and ships deployed we wore the POW bracelets for the POWs, and their Families who were our neighbors and for me classmates whose Fathers were POWs with Jeremiah Denton. When I got older I read When Hell was in Session with great amazement to think they were going through all this, and their brave wives and families maintained at home. If you have not read his book, you should. IF you think a career in the Military is a fallback because you could not find a better job, think again. It is a service to the country and the beliefs which you hold dear. No paycheck could sustain you while rotting in a prison. No paycheck could urge you to be resiliant in the face of crushing mental and physical torture. It was love and service to Flag, Family and Ideals that kept them from crumbling. For Jeremiah Denton it was 7 long years. To think what mental strength existed in this man to come home, heal and continue on to be productive is beyond comprehension. God Bless our Heros.
