‘Our politicians have become serial liars’ By Davies Iheamnachor PORT HARCOURT: A onetime governorship aspirant in Rivers state on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the 2007 guber election in the state, Adoye Omuibo-Pepple, has said that the problem with Nigerians is that they do not obey the rules and regulations that govern the country adding that the military government is becoming more beneficial in the country than the professed democratic rule. The politician who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt at the official inauguration of Suncity Magazine and Award of Excellence in the Rivers state at NAFOWA Conference Centre, Air Force Base Port Harcourt, said the increasing cases of corrupt practices among the leaders of the country is that there is no respect for the set standards of the country. He also said the regime of military administrations have benefitted the state and country more than civilian rules adding that all the super infrastructures were done by the military adding that the civilian has not done projects that outstands the ones by their counterparts. He said the country under civilian rule does not pay much attention to rules and regulations saying a society without rules and regulations will definitely fall. He said disobedience to the constitution that binds the country is a serious injury to the country, emphasizing that leaders in the country do not operate with rules. “The problem with this country is that the people do not have absolute respect for rule and regulations in the land. Sustainable democratic culture is anchored on the obedience to the set standards of the people. When the government makes laws they have root in the 10 commandments, so it ought to be respected. “Our politicians have become serial liars and the problem is that the people have also serially applauded the politicians. They have always performed below our expectation yet the people applauded them.” “All the super infrastructures in the country and state were established by the military. From 1999 to date the civilian has not opened even one local government council.
