There is no such thing as an independent Catholic church outside the archdiocee and the church hierarchy. The diocese, the bishop, and the hierarchy are not an extrinsic addition to the Church but are as integral to the Body of Christ as any other part. Just like you cant have a family of just small children; you need parents too. If you break off from the Church youre just another Protestant church, no matter what trappings of Catholicism you attempt to retain. I think the Rogers family, which has engineered this situation to their own benefit for the past decade, need to fess up to their real reasons for opposing the closing of the parish: because they dont want the parish property--which sits next to their own--to be sold off and developed.
