[PAKISTANIS AND GIRLS EDUCATION: My interview with NRK today went quite well. They asked about the reaction in Pakistan on Malala winning the peace prize. I told them it was a mixed reaction. NRK were quite satisfied with my performance. :) But I used the opportunity to tell the Norwegian public that everybody in Pakistan supports girls education, even those who do not like Malala or believe in conspiracy theories about her; of course except those Taliban who tried to kill Malala. I didnt say the following but really one has to be below human dignity not to want girls to get education. These stereotypes about Pakistanis must break. Even the most conservative of guys in Pakistan want their girls to get education. Yes, they may have reservations about what should be taught in the schools but that is another topic of discussion. But girls education per se, is really not that big of an issue all across Pakistan as it is portrayed. I know it because I grew up in one of the most backward, tribal areas of Pakistan. There are economic and structural forces that hinder both girls and boys education. In addition, many poor families prioritise boys over girls. However, I have also seen families where boys are sent to work and girls are sent to school.]
