** POSITION ** School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) Simon Fraser University Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Position title: Assistant Professor in Interactive Media (tenure-track) Start date: September 1, 2015 Applicantions review starts on January 1, 2015 Applicants for this tenure track position should have a teaching and research focus in a broad area of Interactive Media. The school has a need for research scholarship in different aspects of interactive media, encompassing both the theoretical and technical. Examples of areas of interest range from research on computational aspects of interactive media such as virtual agency, animation, 3D graphics, through design aspects of interactive media such as games design, immersive environments, narrative and storytelling, to theoretical studies in the areas of interactive media, such as physical, mobile, ubiquitous, materialist and virtual user experience. Applicants should have the terminal degree in their discipline (normally a Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, games studies, media studies, interactive arts, cognitive science or a related discipline), having studied computer games, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital film and video, computer graphics and animation, sound design, virtual environments, new media arts, design or related areas. Candidates should have teaching experience at the undergraduate level and have high potential for instructional innovation. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop research programmes attractive to external funding and responsive to collaboration with other faculty and graduate students. All SIAT faculty must have a high degree of technological literacy regardless of their disciplinary background. SIAT is a vibrant, multidisciplinary program connecting computing, media and design. SIAT¹s teaching and research draw upon fields ranging from cognitive science, media arts, electronic games, design and interactive technology. SIAT offers degrees at bachelor¹s, master¹s and doctoral levels, and is the home of the SFU Visual Analytics graduate certificate program. The School currently enrolls about 800 undergraduates and approximately 110 graduate students, over 65 of whom are at the doctoral level. SIAT¹s infrastructure includes purpose-built, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories at SFU¹s Surrey campus.
