*****PRESS RELEASE***** A Meeting to Review Emergency Evacuation of Mission Road Area [Jefferson County] to be Held December 19th. Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty and Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire Company Chief Earl Cogle will co-host a meeting beginning at 6 PM to review an ongoing concern about the need to improve access into and out of the Mission Road area especially at times of emergency evacuations. The meeting will focus on the current evacuation options with a hope of building consensus on the best options to pursue to enhance safety and security for residents in the area west of WV State Route 115 at the intersection of Mission Road. “This meeting is needed to do what we can to raise attention and seek solutions to the serious problem of limited access by emergency responders in and out of this part of the county particularly during times of a significant fire, health or law enforcement emergency.” said Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty. “If there was a major fire without access to Mission Road hundreds of homes and thousands of residents would be at risk.” according to BRVFD Chief Earl Cogle. The public meeting is planned to begin at 6 PM at Blue Ridge Elementary School. The meeting will review the current status of road conditions; review number of residents and residences in the affected area; review areas where existing rights of ways may exist; try to determine what actions by the State may be needed to improve access, and to establish a preferred action plan to enhance safety in case of major evacuation. The public is invited to attend. The meeting will begin at 6 PM and end by 8 PM.
