#Palace #Trinci at #Foligno (PG) The Palazzo Trinci is a patrician building which is located in the center of Foligno, in Piazza della #Repubblica. It is one of the most interesting constructions of the late Gothic mansions of central Italy. It contains a beautiful series of frescoes from the early fifteenth century made by Gentile da Fabriano in collaboration with other #painters. Palazzo Trinci houses the Municipal Art Gallery, the Archaeological Museum and the #Multimedia Museum of #Tournaments, #Joust and #Games. From the main entrance you enter the courtyard, simple and majestic with its arcades with pillars and large vaults, but it is the inside that leaves you breathless. In the inner courtyard you will find the original Gothic staircase, once in the open and now covered, with late #Gothic decorations, partially fragmented. The more monumental frescoes are on the second floor. At the top of the stairs is the Room of Sixtus IV, named after the #pope who in 1475 ordered the wooden ceiling on which appears his coat of arms. It is decorated with frescoes and figurative motifs of the late fifteenth / early sixteenth century. On the opposite side of the staircase is the Loggia of #Romulus and #Remus with frescoes narrating of the life of the legendary founders of Rome by Gentile da Fabriano. The Trinci-family ideally wanted to connect there life to these famous founders of Rome. The nearby chapel is covered with splendid frescoes by Ottaviano Nelli dating back to 1424. From the loggia you come to the Sala delle Arti liberali e dei Pianeti (Hall of Liberal #Arts and #Planets), the most famous of the complex, in which is unfolded a complex iconographic program. The next corridor is actually the ponte sospeso( suspended bridge) that connected the Palazzo Trinci with the cathedral. The monumental depicted figures are always by #Gentile da #Fabriano and his school. Returning to the Room of #Sixtus IV you can enter the Hall of Gigants with frescoes by Gentile and his collaborators. The Rooms in the northwest part of the building are housing the Pinacoteca, while the #archaeological #museum has been set up on the first floor and includes materials and stone inscriptions from the Roman and late #Roman period, urns, coffins and other materials from the excavation at Santa Maria in Campis (#Fulginia) and #Colfiorito (Plestia).
