(Part V) HOW TO LIVE A VICTORIOUS LIFE FOR CHRIST. This is the last of a five part series. You can find the previous parts in our earlier post. Part V BE CONTENT 1 Timothy chapter 6 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. All Christians should be motivated by the Holy Spirit and the great joy that is found in serving our Lord. We should never let money, fame, or vain glory dictate our decisions or be our motivation in life. Career, personal goals, selfish ambitions, should always take a backseat to the will of God. After all God has the keys to all the doors and Christ is the only one who can satisfy our thirst. Ecclesiastes chapter 5 10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. If we look to money, or material things to make us happy or to satisfy our drive, then we will be let down. Like the carrot held in front of the Donkey directs its path, so money and the pursuit of materials will also direct our path, if we allow it to. God already has a path and a plan for our life, and he doesnt use money, materials or power to keep us on it. Therefore we should never let those things have any control of the life life we have in Christ. Matthew chapter 6 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. The Lord is calling all Christians to choose, whether your going to live for the things of this world or live for him and his purpose. Scripture clearly states that we cannot live for both, they work against each other. Many times in a Christians life, Gods will may not be the most comfortable place or the job that pays the most but remember we no longer work for ourselves we are now employed by God so therefore we must be obedient to his commands. When times get difficult working for the Lord, I find strength knowing that I was bought for a price! God payed a great price for me with the blood of Jesus Christ his only Begotten Son, and what a privilege it is to have a Master that Loves me, and believes that Im worth the price that was paid. God is on the search for the lost, to save the sinner and has called all Christians to go out to all the world and proclaim the good news that there is forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I have found that in life attitude parallels my thankfulness. Every day in all situations I try to purposely keep a good attitude, in this I find its much easer to be thankful when I have a good attitude. I believe attitude plays a vital role in a productive Christians life. Proverbs chapter 6 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. 9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. Being content does not merit laziness. The scriptures above actually reveal that laziness will cause a person to be less content. Verse 11 uses strong language that reveals a mans laziness can lead to a desperate want. We need to be content and thankful so we will be free to do Gods work with a good attitude and faith that God will provide. Hebrews 13 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Sometimes as Christians We are guilty of looking around and seeing what appears to be the wicked prospering. This is not of God and scripture clearly describes what is actually taking place. Psalm chapter 37 1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous. 18 The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. 19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. 20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away. Proverbs chapter 24 1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief. 19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked: 20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out. If we are striving to live a Christian life and are called according to his purpose, God will grant us peace and joy, and we will learn to be content and will be able to overcome the troubles of this life by the power of God. Philipians 4:11 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
