Paul was unimpressive in person. He wrote of himself that “His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible” (2 Corinthians 10:10). Paul described himself as “humble when face to face” and bold when away! (2 Corinthians 10:1) He wrote so powerfully he worried his letters scared people. (2 Corinthians 10:9) His letters were strong, but in person he was just like me and you.
