“Perfect migrants, very well integrated, but because of that - TopicsExpress

“Perfect migrants, very well integrated, but because of that also almost invincible, especially the second and third generation, and that while Dutch migrants have paid a very important tribute to the development of these countries.” This was the observation of the by Australian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Neil Mules, and New Zealand Ambassador to the Netherlands, Janet Lowe. The role and position of the Dutch diaspora in both countries was the topic of the expert seminar, which took place at the NIDI (Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute) on 9 December 2014. In addition, the conversation was focused on the difference between permanent and temporary migrants. The way in which different generations stay in touch with the Netherlands and have knowledge of their cultural heritage, was also discussed. “300.000 Australians claim to have Dutch roots, which means there is at least some awareness of their cultural heritage,” says Frank Buchner of the Bridging the Distance organisation in a reaction to the event. The Dutch diaspora in both countries also appear to be a very good instrument to strengthen the excellent bilateral relations. Would you like to join an Asia & Oceania Carrousel event?
