** Police Notice ** Tradesmen urged to secure their ladders following thefts in Chesterfield Police are urging tradesmen to secure their vehicles after a number of ladders were stolen from vans across the Chesterfield division. Throughout the month of November, police received 11 reports from residents that their ladders had been stolen from the tops of their vans overnight. The most recent incident took place overnight between Friday, November 28 and Saturday November 29 outside a property on The Green in Hasland. Sometime between 10pm on Thursday, November 27 and 7am on Friday, November 28, offenders stole the ladders from the top of a Ford Transit van that was parked on North Wingfield Road in Grassmoor. Ladders have also been stolen from vans in Bolsover, Heath, Calow, Hasland, Clay Cross and Chesterfield. Community Safety Inspector Russ Dakin said: “There have been several incidents of thefts from around the Chesterfield Division and I would like to take this opportunity to ask motorists to take extra security steps to protect their vans from being targeted by thieves. “I would encourage people to consider security marking their tools to help us to return any recovered items to their owners. This can also help to deter thieves from taking the property. “Ensure that vehicles are properly secure before leaving them unattended and remove any valuables out of view from passers-by. “Finally, park in well-lit areas where possible and use quality locks and chains to secure the ladders firmly to the van.” To speak to your local Safer Neighbourhood team call 101, the non-emergency for Derbyshire police.
