°°° Pre-K Exploring our Environment This morning when we went outside the children discovered some ice on the slides and in the spools. They were fascinated by it being there and some even tried to eat the ice they had found. I was able to get them to not actually eat it but I told them we would make ice inside tomorrow they could try. When we came in they asked if we had a video on ice, I found a video on the water cycle instead and added that when it gets really cold the water turns to ice and snow. After they watched their water cycle video I asked them what they learned about water. B: water is for flowers. K: water goes in the clouds. W: the clouds make water. Kn: rain drops come from the sky then goes back in the sky. M: water turns into clouds then turns into water again. After going over the water cycle we started talking about ice again. I told them we were going to fill gloves with different items we had in the classroom and water then place them in the freezer overnight. They really enjoyed putting different beans, beads, bolts, pasta, rocks and pieces of tires from the playground in their gloves. M: Im putting a lot in my glove! S: my glove has lots and lots in it! Once they had their treasures we filled them with water and tied them shut. Before taking them to the kitchen to freeze overnight I had them tell me what they thought the gloves felt like. K and L: they feel like water. W: they feel like juice. C: smooshy, gooshy. Mn: like dirt. B: goo! Kn: it felt like hands. S: water! M: it feels like Nana, because it has stuff in it. I then asked them for their guess on what it will feel like tomorrow when we get it out of the freezer. C: ice, gooey. It felt like someone froze them, like they took them out of the freezer and freeze it. K: it will feel like water, mine has holes in it. Im going to make one with my dad and sisters. S: it will feel gooey. M: I dont know. L: it will feel like goo. Kn: I dont know. Mn: it will feel like ice. W: it will feel like ice. Nobody can take it away. Lastly, I asked them what they thought we should use to melt our hands tomorrow: K: water W: just sit them out. C: sit them in the sun. Kn: hot air, I think we should use a hot air dryer. L: use the sun. M: we should put it in the sun. W: maybe put in rain or storm if no sun. zoo phonics: today we met kanga kangaroo
