[Preface: This is a very vulnerable set of emotions and feelings. I hope when you read this, you will respect my point of view even if you dont understand it yet.] Every day, I wake up with a slight ounce of optimism that the world may spin differently toward equity. Every day that Im wrong is another day my anxieties and tension throughout my body becomes worse. Terrorism and violence are only recognized when they are imposed upon a very specific demographic. Consider the injustices and loss of innocent lives that your tax money funds and my communities have had to endure. Consider that our very country is capitalizing on the oppression of people like me. Consider that it is exhausting having to constantly defend and prove my humxnity and rationality to (what seems to be) the world every day. Consider that it is safer for me to avoid speaking about being a Muslim. Moreover, I am absolutely not Charlie Hebdo. I am not filled with hatred. I am not provoking orientalist xenophobia toward an oppressed people by dehumxnizing them. I or my faith are not responsible for death, destruction, and horror JUST AS you and your faith or atheism are not. Society had convinced me for a majority of my life that I owed you all an apology when I really dont. Islamophobia exists in the #KillAllMuslims hashtag just as it exists in your #JeSuisCharlie hashtags. You really want to mourn the loss of innocent lives? You really want to look like a good persxn? Dont complacently choose which lives to mourn and which to ignore.
