*** Press Release *** Subject: Fatal Traffic Accident Victim: 5 yr old Female Kenosha, WI Mentioned: 16 yr old Male Racine, WI Vehicle: 2007 Chrysler Van On Saturday July 26th, 2014 at 2:40 p.m. officers responded to a child struck by a vehicle in the 3400blk of First Avenue. Responding officers were advised that the child was standing at the end of a driveway facing the street. The child had just arrived to attend a party in the neighborhood. At this time a 16 year old boy began backing his family’s van out of the driveway. The 5 year old was struck by the passenger side corner of the van and knocked to the ground. She was then run over by the passenger side rear wheel. The driver stated that he did not know that he had struck anything but heard people yelling and shouting. At this point the driver pulled the van forward in the driveway. The child was run over a second time. The 5 year old was conscious when officers and rescue arrived. She was transported to Wheaton Franciscan Emergency Room for treatment where she later died from her injuries. While this is an ongoing investigation, all indications are that this was a tragic accident and the steep pitch of the driveway contributed to the driver not being able to see the child. Sgt.
