**** RANT ALERT**** For the first time in the 23 years that I have lived in St. Charles... and... the 27 years I have been in the st. louis area....i felt the need to lock my doors... and for the first time in the 6 years I have been married... I agreed with my husband to keep my firearm within reach... So last night, I locked the world out and put my means of self defense in its hiding place.... I have tried to not let any of this bother me... but in reality... it affects all of us... whether you are black and fear the repercussions of being associated with the idiots that are tearing apart their own town... or you are white fearing the repercussions of the black community rioting area wide... we all need to step back and breathe... we should not be afraid in our own homes... we should not be afraid to make a late night run to the store... and yet here i sit... terrified of what is to come... our home town is caving in on itself.... I dont care what their reasoning is behind all the destruction and mayhem that they are causing.... and i dont care if they are black, white, or pink with purple spots... there is no reason to act the way that some of these people are acting... they are putting so many lives in danger simply by creating fear... by creating chaos... its dumb... Fear can be a powerful force... Fear can cause normally level-headed people to act before thinking... Fear can tear the town, this state, this country apart.... FEAR can turn neighbors against each other, who would normally share a meal. FEAR can turn Families against each other.... Fear starts wars.... and now that is what we are looking at.... a war in our home town... I dont like being afraid. Yes it is tragic that this boy died.... but no one really knows the accounts of what happened... yes the kid was black... but that is no reason for this... i could pull out statistics and facts about every race.... but i wont.... I dont believe in labels... I believe that people know right from wrong... by the age of 16.... and i think people choose to act one way or they other... so people are CHOOSING to riot.... people are CHOOSING to burn down their town.... people are CHOOSING to create fear in others.... fear that did not exist 3 days ago.... people CHOSE to turn a peaceful demonstration (candlelight Vidal) into something evil... ***End Rant (for now)***
