#RMCUP MATCH REPORT R13 vs. Western Suburbs Magpies @ Windsor Sporting Complex Wed 31/7 Magpies Second Half Swoop Secures The Points (Story courtesy of Keith Topolski RL News) Western Suburbs Magpies continued their late season surge towards a top eight spot with a strong 30-18 win over the Windsor Wolves in a rain deferred match played at Windsor on Wednesday night. Windsor made the one change with back-rower Iszak Taalili coming in for prop Neecrom Areaiiti which forced a reshuffle with Chris Satae starting the game at prop. The Wolves as they did on Saturday against the Warriors started the quickest & scored the opening try to lock Sam Hollis who was able to get in behind the marker defence to score & with the Stewart conversion, led 6-0 early. The Magpies hit back soon after with a try to centre Limoni Kamuta who was able to barge over the for the try out wide to reduce the gap to 2 points mid way thru the first half. Kamuta soon scored his second try, a carbon copy effort of the first try getting the better of his opposing centre Chris Aunese-Scanlan to give the Magpies a 8-6 lead. Windsor regained the lead when a 40/20 kick attempt early in the tackle count was charged down with centre Eddie Aiono able to streak 60 metres to score the try & with the conversion the Wolf Pack led 12-8, a lead they took with them to half time. Wests made all the running early in the second half & were rewarded with a try to back-rower Shane Lalogafau scored on the Wolves right edge from close range & scores were level. The Magpies gained the lead midway thru the second half when a Nathan Waters bomb was regathered by flying Amanono Tovio & converted by David Atuau to give the Magpies a 18-12 lead. The Wolf Pack levelled the scores minutes later with a strong individual try to Satae who barged over from close range with the game evenly poised at 18 all. From there, it was all the Magpies who dominated territory & possession through a combination of good play & a healthy penalty count. A 40/20 kick by the halfback Waters, gave the Magpies the ability to score in the next set which they did through Atuau with a show & go close to the try line. Atuau converted his own try to give the Magpies the lead once more 24-18 with tem minutes remaining. The Magpies sealed with the win with five minutes remaining when Waters dummied his way through the Wolves defensive line before offloading to Shane Lalogafau to score his second try of the night. Final score Magpies 30-18 winners over the Wolves. Best for the Wolf Pack were fullback Alan Eisenhuth, back rower Ryan Tramonte & Hollis while for the Magpies, Waters controlled the game well while Atuau was influential in the second half causing problems for the Wolves defense. Windsor’s plays another 3 games in the next week starting with the table-topping Mounties on Saturday at Windsor, with kickoff at 4PM. The Magpies travel to Beverley Hills Park to take on the Kingsgrove Colts also on Saturday at 3PM. Final Score: Windsor 18 (Tries: Hollis, Aiono, Satae Goals: Stewart 3/3) def by.
