#RMCUP MATCH REPORT R19 vs. Blacktown Workers @ Windsor Sporting Complex Sat 10/8 Fatigued Wolves Claw A Late Win The Wolves completed a gruelling five game in fifteen days when they stormed home late to get a vital 38-34 win over local rivals Blacktown Workers at Windsor Sporting Complex today & doing so re-entering the top 8 at Blacktown’s expense. Windsor’s cause was helped by the late inclusions of Neecrom Areaiiti & Joshua Jay while Blacktown incredibly started the game with only 15 players after back-rower Kurt Horton was ruled out during the pre-game warm-up while Akerpia Tia Kilifi failed to show at the ground. Blacktown started the quicker when the ball was shifted out right from a scrum win before fullback Scott Buckley sliced through the Wolves defence from 40m out to score under the posts & with the conversion by Jarrod Brackenhoffer, Blacktown led 6-0. Windsor hit back almost immediately with an 11th minute try to centre Kieran Croft after the ball was spread quickly out to the right before the centre crashed over out wide. Ben Stewart’s conversion levelled the scores. A great kick & chase from the Wolves pinned Blacktown on their try line but poor defence in the next play allowed Blacktown winger Sakio Dibeci to go the length of the field to score under the posts to give Blacktown a 12-6 lead. Windsor proceeded to score three tries in 6 minutes to take control of the game. Alan Eisenhuth split the Blacktown left edge defence from 35m out to score to the right of the posts before a double to winger PJ Cartwright, both resulting quick shifts to the left inside the Blacktown 20m zone, allowed Windsor to open up a 20-12 lead. Blacktown got back into the game on the back of three repeat sets close to the Wolves try line, when Brackenhoffer took on the line & scored from close range. The five-eighth converted his own try & at half time the Workers trailed 20-18. Blacktown as they did in the first half started the quicker & scored through centre Jean Luc Knox on the last tackle in the left corner after the Wolves failed to deal with a long range line break in the previous play. Brackenhoffer missed the conversion but the 15 man Workers were back in front 22-20. Windsor hit back minutes later to regain the lead when Eli Makuai pounced on a cross field kick that Buckley couldn’t get to, leading 26-22. Blacktown dominated the next 15 minutes & it was no surprise to see them score back to back tries, both from close range to replacement centre Josh Frasier & interchange prop Livingston Afa to seemingly take control of the game at 34-26. Blacktown seemed to set to record a famous win until Windsor stormed home to score twice in the last six minutes of the game to snatch victory & in the process their place in top 8. The first try was scored through winger Joshua Jay after the ball was put out the backline to the left before the winger sliced through a tiring defensive line from 25m out to score under the posts. The match winning try to Alan Eisenhuth came after the penalty gave the Wolves a penalty close to the Workers try line. A few plays later & the fullback lunged over from dummy half to seal the win for the Wolf Pack. Despite the win, coach Brad Prior wasn’t overly happy with his team’s execution at times & felt that perhaps his team was fortunate that Blacktown had only 15 players available today but by the same token certainly couldn’t fault the effort & desire of his team late in the game especially given the hard run of games they have gone through in the last two weeks. He reserved praise for exciting young winger Joshua Jay who had to play in three positions through varying stages of the game while Jack Quegley also impressed on debut at this level. For Blacktown, their backline were dangerous at times led by Jarrod Brackenhoffer, Jean Luc Knox & Sakio Dibeci. Depending on results, Windsor can end the round in 8th position & with 3 rounds to play can seal a top 8 spot with wins over fellow finals aspirants Burwood & Asquith. Next weekend, Windsor take on The Entrance Tigers as part of their huge Back To Windsor Day celebrations which marks the final double header at home for season 2013 while Blacktown take on Mounties at Mt Pritchard Sports Ground also next Saturday at 1:30pm. Final Score: Windsor 38 (Tries: A Eisenhuth 2, PJ Cartwright 2, Croft, Makuai, Jay Goals: Stewart 5/7) def Blacktown 34 (Tries: Buckley, Dibeci, Brackenhoffer, Knox, Frasier, Afa, Goals: Brackenhoffer 5/6)
