(Rant Incoming. Skip to the end for the TL;DR) Why dont we support our friends when they try to do something larger than themselves? I have multiple friends that do various creative and ambitious things with their lives. Rahyel Wiley and David Hansen are music artists. Til Edwards reviews movies and shows, and has his own podcast with a dedicated fanbase. Teannell Morgan and Rae Brown are beautiful models! Chelsea Nicole Dolphin has her own natural hair channel on YouTube, and Tiffany Parker has a wonderful vlog dealing with her every day life! Little known fact, I have TWO COMPLETE instrumental hip-hop albums on Bandcamp! The list goes on, but I can only tag so many people, and hopefully Im making my point. Whenever someone posts a funny picture from some generic page, it gets dozens of likes. Whenever someone gets a new job, or graduates, or has a birthday status, it gets hundreds of likes sometimes. But when myself or a friend (most definitely some of the people above) posts a link to a song, or a body shot for their portfolio, or a video theyd like you to watch of them giving meaningful information, they/we cant get FIVE likes? No shares? Really? Social media is powerful, people, and it starts with the people we know. So why arent we sharing and supporting our friends in their endeavors? Is it because we DONT want them to succeed? Is it because we dont think they will? Maybe because theyre not big enough, and because nobody else is liking or sharing their stuff, it must not be cool. This isnt a rhetorical question, btw, I seriously want to know! If youre not into the things that your friends are trying to do, then thats somewhat understandable. But of my ~1000 friends on Facebook, I have a small circle of people among them who are trying to do something bigger than themselves and could use ALL the help, criticism, love, and support from their FRIENDS that they can muster.
