#Read an excerpt-Life of the Party, Book 2 The Liberty Heights series. Zach Resnick has been away from Liberty Heights for ten years expecting a nostalgic return home: A bell jangled from the shop door, and a pregnant blonde woman rushed out followed by an arthritic woman in a navy pantsuit, sporting bifocals and an incongruous mop of red hair. “Mrs. Baumgart?” It couldn’t be. Frieda Baumgart had been ancient when he had been a kid, or so it had seemed. The woman peered at him through the glasses and hmmphed. “Zachary Resnick. I’d know you anywhere, and don’t think I’ve forgotten about that stink bomb.” Zach winced like a seven-year-old caught with his hand in the cookie jar, or more correctly, the stink bomb. Twenty-seven years this Halloween, and Frieda Baumgart hadn’t forgotten his prank. He hoped she remembered how his parents had all but creamed him when they found out and sentenced him to a month of free yard work for the Baumgarts as penance. And the Baumgarts had a hell of big backyard. Instead, he shot a weak smile at the woman who walked around him, hesitating a moment too long at the rear until heat burned in Zach’s gut. Of all people, she would be the first one he’d run into. Hands on her ample hips, she faced him and surprisingly, hugged him until Zach thought he would choke. “You turned out fine in the end. Cute tush.” Without another word, she headed back into the shop leaving Zach in a mild state of shock. Maybe things had changed in town after all because if he didn’t know better, he’d swear Grandma Baumgart had just ogled his ass.
