#RealityCheck: PROFILING...Never judge a book by its cover: A few days ago, I went to buy my bar equipment and appliances from a well-known restaurant supply company. I was purposely casually dressed for unwanted attention. I went to the appliance sales rep & told him of all the appliances I wanted. He sized me up and down and repeatedly asked to do a credit app first. I didnt know if he was Profiling Me or Pre-Qualifying. Given the way I was dressed, he assumed he may be wasting his time. As he pressured me to do a credit app first, I continued shopping until I was finished choosing what I wanted. I asked him to sum my totals, APR, estimate payments, etc…Im a numbers guy! He reluctantly did so but moved slowly as though he was expecting disappointment. He asked if I could plz get on the phone and make a 3 min call for financial approval first. . I looked at him with confidence, grab the phone and called their financial department. Within 2 min, they said all APPROVED. Afterwards, the salesman attitude changed. I became Mr. Jimmy Jay, yes sir and no sir, and could I interest you in more equipment. I turned to him and smiled, humble and firmly shook his hand and said, Thanks but NO thanks…Just deliver my appliances on time please? Salesman has called me everyday trying to sell more equipment….very funny :) :)
