‘Red 2’ Review - By Isaac Mendelawitz Red 2 is a lot of fun and it is important to enter the film expecting a funny and entertaining film. If you loved the first film, then you will definitely love this one. The film once again follows the retired C.I.A. agent Frank Moses who reunites with his team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. This film contains some problems, though it is all about what you are wanting to get out of it. The story contains some plot holes though the film does not take itself seriously and that is where the film really stands which is how the film should be watched. The film contains some really great over the top action sequences which helps in creating the whole tone for the film. The film is just really entertaining and it is a great way to pass time. I would only really say that the film really lacks in it’s story, but the film is more solely based on the interactions between the characters and that is what the original was mostly known for, especially with this great cast. Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker and Helen Mirren return to play their role and the characters played by Mirren and Malkovich create some memorable and hilarious scenes. A real standout is Byung-hun Lee who plays the world’s best contract killer. What makes him standout is his over the top fight scenes where he really ‘kicks some ass’. It is hard to really criticise this film because i get everything I wanted out of it. I knew exactly what the film was going to be. And the film new exactly what it is meant to be. There are over the top action sequences, lovable characters, some great hilarious moments and a film that will entertain you till the very end. The only think that is stopping me from giving it a higher score is because the film is designed to be a source for entertainment that will help in passing time. Go into the film expecting a lot of fun and not a in depth story, because the only thing will keep you entertained through the film are the characters and the chemistry between them all. I am giving this film a 7/10. For all things film, stay tuned to Mayhem Film Reviews. ‘Red 2’ will be released in Australia on the 29th of August 2013.
