#ResidentialRentalsNewsletter What is the best way to contact your Property Manager? Popular belief has it that the best form of communication is verbal communication, but is that always the case? Any experienced property owner/investor will tell you that getting in contact with their Property Manager can be difficult. The reason for this is that on any given day, a Property Manager will go through a large range of tasks both in and outside of the office and for the most part they are on the phone or talking with clients and are hard to reach as a consequence. Without a doubt, the best way to contact your Property Manager is via e-mail. In the event that the matter is urgent, a phone call is best practice. We are seeing some change within the industry with Property Managers communicating via Skype with video conversations. This is a great form of practice, especially for overseas owners where verbal communication can be costly. Using these mediums to communicate helps to maintain good client relations. When initiating contact with your Property Manager, expectations should be spelled out clearly with regards to communication from both parties to achieve a mutually beneficial arrangement. Do you require your Property Manager to contact you for general repairs, or would you prefer them to simply authorise the work and not bother you? Everyone has different expectations that need to be communicated at the beginning of the relationship. At the end of the day and, as individuals we all communicate differently. It may be best practice for all concerned to use e-mail where possible, but the reality is that it all comes down to the individuals involved to choose what best suits them.
