# Respect; earned through quality and not status. It is a joy when we have our leaders coming down to the ground and helping out the community hands on. This, brings in admiration and respect by all towards them leaders. As it is known, it is our right to choose our leaders as we know who deserves it by their character, attitude and response to the issues and problems at hand. At times, sad to note, but we do encounter leaders who holds the position of a leader for his/her own benefit. This are the kind of leaders that we find a bit too difficult to respect and or show any sort of attention to. Yesterday, as I was away on a visit, I got the upper hand of experiencing such a leader. And truth to be told, the incident did not rub well on me. How do you accept such a statement You cannot move or do anything without MIC, so better give me some respect ; when you know for a fact that this leader has not once done anything for the community without having any other personal agenda up his sleeve. Respect literally means: a positive feeling of esteem or deference for a person or other entity, and also specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem. (source: Wikipedia). How can one turn around and ask for it without having done or said anything to prove that he/she deserves it? My apologies but until and unless you start respecting your position by doing what is right for the community, I do not feel obliged to respect or look up to you regardless of your status in the society. We want a fair and just society and community so that we can all live together as ONE Human Race, regardless of race, religions, belief and so on. Leaders such as this making claims that they hold superior powers for the success and achievements of anything at all, does not show oneness at all. Want Respect; Give Respect.
