“Reuniting the Father And Son” Gen 46:28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. 29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. 30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive. Jacob last saw Joseph as he sent his son to check on the brothers some twenty three to twenty four years before. It would be like some of those children that have been kidnapped at an early age and gone without a trace leaving the parents to think that their child was dead and would never see them again. How sad of a story this is in this family because of messed up envy and jealousy of the brothers to Joseph. But we see a number of things in the reunion. The first thing is that Joseph was interested in his father’s well-being as well as the sixty six souls that had traveled with him. Joseph had not seen his nephews and nieces and missed out on the growth of the family. But as he got into his chariot and began the trip to Goshen, it was very evident he was beside himself to see his family after so many years, especially his dad. Can you imagine the butterflies in his stomach as he approached the city of Goshen? This city was closest to Canaan and Joseph allowed his family to be semi separated from the Egyptians for many reasons but nonetheless he kept them safe and well fed in the famine. Another thing that is evident here is that Joseph rewarded his brothers the good of the land for their flocks and cared for their lives, even though they had done evil to him. This is just like our heavenly Father when we are doomed for hell with our sins and then He sends Jesus Christ to this wicked earth to die in our place. He only ask that we believe on His Son and be saved from the penalty of sin because God took out His wrath upon sin by crucifying His Son on the cross. He paid that penalty for the sins of the whole world – all sins. That is rewarding evil with good my friend. What a gracious and merciful God we serve. As Joseph beheld his dad, the emotions of the meeting went for a good while as they wept on each other. Can you just fathom all the longing of this aged dad getting to see his son for the first time in over twenty three years? The joy that flooded his soul was past exuberant when he held his long lost son just like the father in the New Testament of the prodigal son in Luke 15:20. Jacob had to be very proud of his son with the place that God had brought him. The responsibility in the position that God had placed him into was awesome but that was not the primary point here. Jacob was enjoying the time of embracing and sharing the affectionate love that had escaped them for years. What a reunion! It will be our time one of these days when we get to see our Father in heaven that we have only read about and served for years. The time with Him for eternity will be so awesome. Jesus said that, “He had gone to prepare a place for us and that where He was, there we would be with Him” – John 14:1-3. The land of Goshen though plenteous and fertile for the herds is not going to hold a candle to what Jesus has for us! Joseph served Pharaoh King of Egypt for years and we serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords with all our hearts, souls and bodies. The time of reunion is just around the corner. Look up your redemption draweth nigh!
