Rise in theft of catalytic converters This is a message sent via ecops. This information has been sent on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary Good afternoon all We have seen a rise in theft of catalytic converters from a particular range of vehicles - since the beginning of October 2013 there have been 21 recorded offences across the Eastern and Northern Sectors of the City. The vehicles targeted have been Ford Galaxys, VW Sharrans, Seat Alhambras, Peugeot 406, Ford transits, Citroen C8s and Mercedes Sprinters. The vehicles are mainly high off the ground for easy access although offenders have previously used car/trolley jacks. Please could attention be made to such vehicles for anyone acting suspicious in the area. If you park your vehicle on your drive, purchasing a set of driveway alarms may help prevent offenders accessing your vehicle - a set of alarms start from around £12 and an alarm will sound in the house alerting you to fact that someone is on your driveway - also think about checking security lights are working. Catalytic Converter marking kits are available that are Thatcham approved - these can be purchased for approximately £10 and provide a non removalable stencil for the catalytic converter and warning stickers for both front windows Please see their web site at retainagroup/metal-marking.html Please report suspicious activity in the area of your home to the police on 101 - this could include vehicles driving around looking at vehicles on driveways. If you can get a registration number and descriptions of persons that is really useful Many thanks Carol Aston Crime Reduction Officer covering Northern Sector and Fenland Cambridgeshire Police
