Russia is IMHO all played out as a revolutionary force on the world stage. It is becoming increasingly clear that Trotskys prediction regarding the collapse of the USSR and Russias semi-colonial status as a result was correct. It was inevitable that a struggle for power and absolute total global supremacy by US imperialism must of necessity have the need to relegate Russia to the kind of semi-colonial status that it had prior to the Russian Revolution of 1917. The rotten oligarchic regime that Putin represents and fronts for is definitely on the way out. It seems to me that such is only a matter of time unless there is some turn around in regard to the situation in Ukraine and I really dont see that happening right now. The article is correct in its assertion that such an oligarchic regime as the one that Putin represents can only rely on outdated forms of primitive nationalism that have no place in the modern world because they have been shown by the history of the 20th century to lead ultimately to disaster. There is still much intellectual, social, and artistic genius left in Russia that must of necessity find an outlet for itself through the linking up with similar such positive and progressive forces in the West as well as the East. If its true that geography is destiny than Russias destiny as both a European and and Asia power that can look both East and West makes it truly unique and special. As I have said many times before The Decline of the West is more than just the title of a philosophical treatise by Oswold Spengler. It is the central political, social, and economic reality of our present era. No country on Earth is better prepared than Russia to deal with this new reality if it so chooses to. Russia sees its ultimate destiny in bringing together both East and West in a new common Eurasian home. If it can do that in spite of opposition from the US and other elements of the West then it will be able to rise above and transcend the present social and political mess that it presently finds itself in. There are no guarantees that in the short term it will be able to achieve such a historic mission; however, on the basis of a long term objective and in conjunction with the positive progressive elements in Eurasia it can perhaps achieve its historic mission of unifying East and West in a common Eurasian home.
