**SCRIPTURE READINGS for September 15** We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near....For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.... All the strength of the wicked, I will cut off, but the strength of the righteous shall be exalted. --Psalm 75:1, 6-7, 10 *** Your name, O Lord, endures forever, Your fame, O Lord, throughout all generations. For the Lord will judge His people, and He will have compassion on His servants. The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of mens hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see; they have ears, but they do not hear; nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them. --Psalm 135:13-18 *** A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (v. 1) A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart, the spirit is broken. (v. 13) A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention. (v. 18) The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. (v. 28) The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and a good report makes the bones healthy. The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise. He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility. (vs. 30-33) --Proverbs 15:1, 13, 18, 28, 30-33
