SHELDON HAUDENSCHILD WINS 1st EVER ALL STAR MAIN; DROWN TOPS LATE MODELS; STRICKLER MASTERS MODIFIEDS; MOORE GRABS SUPER STOCK FEATURE Orrville, Ohio Saturday, July 5, 2014 By Mike Swanger A jammed packed grandstand at NAPA Wayne County Speedway was ready for 120 laps of feature action on Gross Lumber Night as the UNOH All Star Sprints kicked the night off with the Duffy Smith Memorial and it was local driver Sheldon Haudenschild going flag to flag for his first ever All Star win. Winning the dash to earn the right to start on the pole, Haudenschild held off a late charge by Tim Shaffer as fast qualifier Chad Kemenah, Derek Hagar and Lee Jacobs filled out the top five. Brandon Matus, All Star points leader Dale Blaney and Caleb Helms won the heat races with Kory Crabtree earning the B-Main victory. Broc Martin was the Hard Charger of the race as he started 23rd and finished 13th, improving ten positions. For complete details for the race, go to allstarsprint Rick Aukland led the opening 19 laps of the Don Gross Memorial for the Elite 8 Late Models but Wooster’s Doug Drown powered past at that point and drove away to pocket the $4,000 winners share and his second win in two nights ay NAPA Wayne County Speedway. Aukland held on to second as fast qualifier Devon Moran, Corey Conley and Matt Irey had a three way battle for third before finishing in that order. Moran, Aukland and Drown won the heats with Blaine Aber posting the last chance win. Mooresville’s N.C. Kyle Strickler and Corey Conley went back and forth for the lead in the Renegades of Dirt Modified feature and just past the halfway mark, Strickler took control of the race and was the first to see the checkered flag and take home the $3,000 first place money. Travis Dickson was a close third with Tyler Nicely and Chris Basich rounding out the top five. Aukland, Strickler, Nathan Loney, and Conley scored the heat wins with the last chance win going to Billy Workman. For Complete details of the race, go to renegadesofdirt Nick Smith took his pole position and set the pace for the first two laps of the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature but quick timer Bob Daugherty moved into the lead from his 3rd starting position but as he come out of turn two on lap eight, Daugherty’s machine pulled off with mechanical issues giving the lead to Mansfields Brad Moore. Smith would hold on to second until three laps to go when Larry Baldwin slipped past but he could not catch up to Moore before the checkered flag flew. Brandon Gardner finished fourth with Mitch Caskey getting fifth. Daugherty and Baldwin picked up the heat wins. Racing continues next Saturday, July 11th with the Lias Tire Late Models in action with race #5 of the NAPA Wayne County Speedway/ Attica Raceway Park Late Model Series. They will be at Attica on Friday night July 10th and if a driver can win both features, he will pick up a $1,000 bonus. The Fisher Performance Sprints, the Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks, the WQKT Mini Stocks and the NAPA Mini Wedges will also be on the NAPA Wayne County Speedway racing card.
