“SPEAK YOUR MIND” CONTRIBUTED BY: LAGRANT ANTHONY People are not taught but conditioned” to not speak their mind. People are taught to “be quiet”; to acquiesce, to accept something reluctantly but without protest. When does silence become a lie? As some people say, lets keep it 100. Meaning, let’s be truthful. People have been socially indoctrinated not to tell the truth. This ranges from acquiesce to what someone says, going along to get along, to outright lying. So when people say-- they always speak whats on their minds, they are not telling the truth. Most people refrain from discussions involving truth. Truth is rarely present in any discussion. Truthful discussions on the topic of -race relations in America- are taboo and avoided at all cost. Rarely do we hear what really is on someones mind --even though they often declare --they speak whats on their mind. When we refrain from being genuine and speaking what --we believe to be the truth regarding a topic-- we never “speak our minds.” Some people may refer to this as being politically correct. Those that ascribe to being “politically correct” instead of truthful are in fact nothing less than genuinely dishonest and conscientious liars. A lie is no longer a lie. Evil has been made good and good evil. American culture promotes less than candid -- superficial relationships. We have been conditioned NOT to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Dishonesty is no longer ill moral. Dishonesty is no longer dishonest. Dishonest has become an acceptable behavior trait. Dishonest is now --unconsciously accepted-- as a virtuous character trait. This is what justifies white lies as something that should be considered good. e.g. Santa Claus Why do people refrain from speaking their minds? Why are people afraid to be candid and tell the truth? The United States attorney general Eric Holder said it is because Americans are a bunch of cowards when it comes to talking about race relations in America. Al Pacino said, people do not speak their minds because you do not want the truth....you can not handle the truth. The truth will indeed set you free. Scripture says, “Those that worship God must worship him in truth and spirit.” Wow. There it is again, truth. If we are afraid to speak the truth are we also afraid to worship God? Can you worship God without speaking the truth? Can you be a disciple of Christ without speaking the truth? Can you handle the truth? If you can not handle the truth you can not handle God. If you can not handle truth you can not worship God. A culture will eventually collapse when 1- it is built upon dishonesty, 2- prefers the superficial more than the genuine, and 3- where honesty is perceived as malicious criticism and candor is condemned. These are the inhibitors of truth and why people do not speak what really is--- on their mind. To separate men from truth is to separate men from God. Those that worship God must worship him in truth and spirit. Fear God not man. God did not give you the spirit of fear. Speak whatever is on you mind. Tell the truth and shame the devil. Reconstruct a godly culture. A culture founded upon truth, honesty, genuineness, candor and godly wisdom.
