♦ Sahjo Bai: A Perfect Guru & The Four Kinds of Intelligence ♦ . Says Sahjo Bai, my Guru Charan Das Ji says that a perfect Guru has all the four attributes in Him. Each gets from Him what he deserves Sahjo Bai. >> He acts like A TOUCH-STONE to his disciple who is like iron. He converts the disciple into gold in no time. >> And like the SANDAL-WOOD TREE growing in plenty in Malaya hill, the perfect Guru accomplishes the task of the disciple, who is like a Palas tree, by converting him into a Sandal-wood tree also. >> The disciple comes like a worthless worm, and the perfect Guru, acting as A BLACK-BEE, makes the disciple like himself. The disciples previous form thus undergoes a complete change. >> By the touch of the perfect Guru, the disciple who is at first like a lamp without a flame, also becomes a lighted lamp. Like A LAMP, the perfect Guru makes a gift of his own light to the disciple and there is great illumination all round. . Says Sahjo Bai, my Guru Charan Das, has all the qualities of butter. He has access everywhere and is all-powerful, no secret being hidden from him. He knows the inner capacity of the disciples for Gyan (knowledge), Bhakti (devotion) and Yog. To each, He prescribes the kind of Dhyan befitting his understanding. The Lord abides in all and yet, He is different from all. He has brought into being human beings with four kinds of intelligence. >> The first kind of intelligence is like a line drawn on water, which goes on vanishing as it is being drawn. >> That of the second kind is like a line drawn on the road, which has short existence or is short-lived like the whims of the mind. In other words, in this case, the mind no doubt acts, but only superficially. >> The third kind of intelligence is like a line carved out on a stone which diminishes, of course, but does no increase in length. >> Intelligence of the fourth kind is like an oil drop of water which expands and expands all the time. From small size, it grows to large dimensions and shows all kinds of hues. The first three kinds of intelligence are common in this world, but only a rare one has intelligence of the fourth kind. Says Sahjo Bai, all kinds of intelligence are, by them selves, useless, and in all of them, the Gurus mercy is a must. One is endowed with intelligence if only the Lord is merciful, otherwise not. Nevertheless, all intelligence goes to nought without the grace and mercy of the Guru.
