"Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) can sue Sarawak Hidro Sdn Bhd for the frequent blackouts, including the statewide blackout on June 27 this year. Public Utilities Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the legal recourse was one of the options being looked into. It is provided for under SEB’s power purchase agreement with Sarawak Hidro. SEB is a Sarawak government-owned energy company, while Sarawak Hidro is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Minister of Finance Incorporated Malaysia under the federal government. It owns, operates and manages the Bakun Hydroelectric Dam project. “Based on the agreement, we can take legal action,” said Awang Tengah to reporters at Wisma Sumber Alam yesterday when asked to comment on the preliminary findings of the June 27 blackout."
