***Severe Weather Warning** Issued at 4:06 pm EDT on Wednesday 9 October 2013. DAMAGING WINDS OVER SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW SOUTH WALES ON THURSDAY **Weather Situation* A strong cold front is expected to cross southern and central New South Wales on Thursday. Gusty, strong to gale force west to northwesterly winds will increase ahead of this front over the Alps later this evening, before increasing over the remainder of southern and central NSW Thursday morning. Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak wind gusts exceeding 100km/h are forecast to develop over parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district above 1500 metres later this evening. Damaging winds are likely to extend on Thursday morning to the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, and parts of the Hunter, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Upper Western, Lower Western and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. Alpine peaks above 1900 metres may experience winds over 80 km/h with peak gusts up to 130km/h.
