(Should Athletes Protest For or Against Political Matters?): - TopicsExpress

(Should Athletes Protest For or Against Political Matters?): Initially, we saw a hand full of NFL players for the St. Louis Rams perform a silent, non-violent protest by taking to the field with their hands up, as a symbolical gesture for the Hands Up, Dont Shoot movement relative to the death of Micke Brown in Ferguson. Within the past few days, weve seen Reggie Bush of the Detroit Lions, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, and several other athletes follow suit. My question is this: Why are athletes and celebrities criticized for taking a stand for their beliefs in a non-violent way if non-violent protest are SUPPOSED TO BE the acceptable standard? Charles Barkley spoke in support of the grand jury decisions and there was no such backlash telling him to stay out of political matters. Yet when athletes speak in support of the victims, theyre met with not only harsh criticism, but threats and boycotts from all angles, including local police. Why is this? And is it fair? #TalkToMe
